Hikari Seiki made bayonets from 19381945. This is an excellent example of a Type 30 bayonet. The type 30 bayonet went through many variations as the war raged on and resources became very limited. Hikari Seiki made bayonets from 1938–1945. This is an excellent example of a Type 30 bayonet. The type 30 bayonet went through many variations as the war raged on and resources became very limited. You can tell this is an early war production since it has the hooked quillon on the crossguard, and steel birds head pommel. This bayonet also has a very worn (unreadable) serial number stamped onto the top of the pommel. Both of these have the majority of their original finish and have slightly toned to a nice gray steel color. Someone has used the pommel as a hammer at one point. You can see the damage to the side of the bird’s head. The grip plates are wood, held on with two rivets. This example has no washers. The wooden handle grips are just slightly loose. The wood is a nice dark brown color and a bit worn from years of use. Really quite beautiful. The mortise button works as intended. Another early characteristic of an early production is the steel scabbard. This one has the majority of its finish. The steel has toned to the same color as the upper fittings. The blade is nicely blued, and very well marked under the crossguard for the KK Hikari Seiki Seisakusho arsenal. This comes with a high-quality brown leather frog that is soft and supple and shows light wear. Overall, this bayonet is very good!
