Scott E. Beck, President
Scott E. Beck is President and founder of Chesapeake Investment Management, LLC, and a member of its Investment Committee. Scott founded Chesapeake on the premise of providing superior client service and performance. He has more than 28 years of experience as an investment adviser and financial consultant. His responsibilities at Chesapeake include serving as the firm’s Chief Executive Officer and Chief Compliance Officer, co-developing the firm’s quarterly investment outlook, performing securities analysis, formulating portfolio strategies and managing client portfolios. Scott has worked extensively with individuals and institutional clients and has broad industry experience interpreting and implementing investment policy guidelines, target asset allocations and investment strategies.
Prior to founding Chesapeake Investment Management, Scott was a partner with Columbia Financial Advisors, LLP, a privately owned investment and advisory firm in Washington, DC. Before joining Columbia, he was a Senior Vice President for Johnston, Lemon & Company, Inc., a Washington-based regional brokerage and investment advisory firm. His experience and responsibilities with the firm, spanning 18 years, included executing firm trades as a floor broker on the Philadelphia Options Exchange, equity trading, securities analysis, portfolio management and financial consulting. Scott was also a Senior Vice President for JL Capital Management, the firm’s investment management arm, and a member of its Investment Committee. Scott has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal and on WSJ.com. He holds a B.S. in Finance, Marketing from the University of South Carolina.
Scott is an active member of the Washington community. He serves on a host of committees for DC-area nonprofits related to the investment industry. He is Past President of the University Club of Washington, DC. and current Treasurer of the University Club Foundation. Scott lives with his wife Laura and their two children in Potomac, Maryland.
E. Antonio Sarrge – Vice President
E. Antonio Sarrge is the Vice President of Chesapeake Investment Management and a member of its Investment Committee. He has over twenty-five years of experience as an investment adviser and financial consultant and more than twenty years managing client relationships. His responsibilities at Chesapeake include serving as the firm’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer, developing and maintaining portfolio strategies, managing client portfolios, co-developing the firm’s quarterly investment outlook, conducting fundamental research and securities analysis. Tony has extensive experience working with individuals, nonprofits and corporations and a reputation for focusing on client service.
Prior to joining Chesapeake Investment Management, Tony held positions at Folger Nolan Fleming Douglas, Inc., where he was Portfolio Manager, and at Columbia Financial Advisors, LLP, where he was a principal and portfolio manager. Tony holds the Certified Public Accountant designation and a B.S. in Accounting and Finance from George Mason University.
Tony is an active member of the Virginia community. Tony is Treasurer of The Westminster School and serves on its Executive Committee. Tony lives with his wife Lisa and their two children and share time at their residences in Annandale, Virginia and Swanton, Maryland.
Maureen Bigger, CFP
Maureen is an investment advisor representative with Chesapeake Investment Management as well as the founder and owner of Bigger & Company, LLC, an insurance brokerage firm. Maureen has eight years of experience as an investment advisor and an insurance professional. She currently assists business owners and executives with business continuation, asset protection, and succession planning. Maureen also offers services pertaining to group health and welfare benefits, executive benefits, retirement planning, and estate and financial planning strategies.
Prior to joining Chesapeake Investment Management and founding Bigger & Company, LLC, Maureen spent over 20 years working in the semiconductor industry on both coasts. An active member in the local community, Maureen has served as board member and co-chair of the Mentor Protégé Committee for Women in Technology, is a member of the Executive Women’s Board of the City Club of Washington, and is a member of the Board of Governors of the Capital Society. She is also a founding member of the Business Resource Advisory Group and the DC Dynamos.
Maureen earned a B.S. degree in Finance from George Mason University. A native Californian, Ms. Bigger moved to Virginia in 1994. She and her husband, John, live in Alexandria with their Labrador retriever. She is an avid reader, enjoys sailing and needlework, and attempts the occasional game of golf.
John A. Edwards, CFA Director/Portfolio Manager
John serves as a trusted financial advisor to our high net worth clientele, where he leverages his many years of experience and broad industry knowledge to assist clients in achieving their financial goals.
Prior to joining Chesapeake, John was Senior Portfolio Manager at Evermay Wealth Management where he worked with high net worth clients. Previously, John served as Chief Investment Officer at ASB Capital Management, where he was responsible for the management of fixed-income assets totaling over $1 billion. He simultaneously served as Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at Chevy Chase Trust, where he was responsible for managing portfolios for high net worth individual and institutional clients.
John started his trust career at First Virginia Bank, where he assisted high net worth clients in managing their portfolios and held several key positions, including that of Vice President. He began his financial services career at GIT Investment Funds, working his way up from Portfolio Manager to Vice President, Portfolio Management, and overseeing security selection, asset allocation, research, and trading for a variety of mutual fund portfolios.
John earned the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst in 1991 and an MBA in Finance from the University of Maryland in 1987. John received a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Maryland and worked for several years as a research biologist at the National Institutes of Health before deciding to make a pivotal career change to financial services.
Barbara L. R. Frank, Registered Investment Advisor Representative
Barbara has worked in the financial industry since 1986, initially at Merrill Lynch, New York, in the Unit Investment Trust Division. She headed the Domestic Private Banking Sector at Credit Suisse, New York before returning to Merrill Lynch to work in the Foreign Office, managing both individual and corporate portfolios for clients in the U.S. and Western Europe.
In an early academic career Barbara taught at universities in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, in Boston, and in the District of Columbia. She subsequently worked for the United Nations Development Programme as a projects’ officer in New York as well as on missions in West Africa and as an Attachee for the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris.
Barbara holds a Ph.D. in Germanic Languages and Literature from Harvard University and an MBA in International Finance from New York University. She lives on a farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, where her interests include historic preservation, riding, music and creative writing. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Chamber Players and of the U.S. Order of the Society of St. John of Jerusalem.
Maedi Tanham Carney – Investment Advisor Representative
Since 1992, Maedi Tanham Carney CFP® CWIC has provided financial planning, investment advice and insurance services to corporations and individuals throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Maedi is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Registered Investment Advisor with Chesapeake Investment Management, LLC, and a Certified Work Incentive Coordinator (CWIC). Beginning in 2009 Maedi decided to focus exclusively on special needs planning by founding M&L Special Needs Planning, LLC. In 2011, Maedi received her Certified Work Incentive Coordinator (CWIC) certificate. This advance degree acknowledges Maedi’s wealth of knowledge in understanding the complexities of Social Security Benefits, and at M&L helps families in all areas of benefit counseling.
In 2013, Maedi founded Integrated Living Opportunities (ILO) with a group of five families from Montgomery County Maryland. ILO is a 501c3 nonprofit incorporated in Washington DC for the Montgomery County Maryland and Washington DC area. Maedi is the Executive Director and Member at large on ILO’s Board. ILO focuses on creating supportive communities for adults with developmental disabilities and their participating families. These communities consist of teams of paid and unpaid individuals working to assist the adults with developmental disabilities as they move into their own residences, learn new skills, maintain the ones they have and live full lives. Participating Family learn how to create community partnerships by participating in ILO’s training. ILO blogs have information of progression of ILO.
Maedi received her Bachelor of Science in Finance and Real Estate from the University of Denver in 1983. She worked for the commercial real estate firm Studley, Inc in Washington DC from 1984 – 1991. In 1992, Maedi received her Certified Financial Planning License and her Certified Work Incentive Coordinator certificate in 2011. Maedi is the parent of two girls. One of Maedi’s daughters was born with a syndrome, is intellectually disabled and a self-advocate of ILO.
