With Keith Armstrong behind the boards, Shaman's Harvest decidedly wanted a more organic, analog sound for their sixth record. "We used analog effects pedals and vintage amps. This is the first record that we went with this approach. It was kind of like trying to find the melting point between midwest and L.A. it still has the Shaman's Harvest midwest vibe to it, but it definitely has organic L.A. written all over it." Singer Nathan Hunt shares, "this past year has been a year of firsts for Shaman's Harvest and that's great and all, but we are only lookin' forward... resting on our accomplishments makes us fat 'n lazy. If there's one thing rock 'n roll doesn't need it is complacency." Far from enthralling, but I did learn

This book was a disappointment. It looked like exactly what I was looking for: an overview of the history, society, and culture of Egypt from ancient to modern times that wasn't 500+ pages long. I did learn a fair bit of information, but unfortunately, the book is far from "enthralling." It reads like a high school student's book report. In addition, it sometimes just throws terms out there with no explanation, and I found myself having to consult Google. For example, it says "Since hieroglyphs were difficult to create, the Egyptians developed hieretic writing, which was a type of cursive script. Later, demotic writing was developed for ordinary documents." What is demotic writing? How is it different from hieretic? The book doesn't even provide a picture. I had to go to Wikipedia to find out what these things are. This book needs slightly more detail and an author with better writing style / storytelling abilities. That said, it still may be the best short introduction available.

Very good history book of Egypt in non-complicated terms. I wish there were more pictures and maps to add to the descriptions in the book. Read this as it was recommended by our tour guide to Egypt in April
