Storming the Gates of Paradise, an anthology of her essential essays from the past ten years, takes the reader from the Pyrenees to the U.S.--Mexican border, from San Francisco to London, from open sky to the deepest mines, and from the antislavery struggles of two hundred years ago to today's street protests. The nearly forty essays collected here comprise a unique guidebook to the American landscape after the millennium--not just the deserts, skies, gardens, and wilderness areas that have long made up Solnit's subject matter, but the social landscape of democracy and repression, of borders, ruins, and protests. She ventures into territories as dark as prison and as sublime as a broad vista, revealing beauty in the harshest landscape and political struggle in the most apparently serene view. Her introduction sets the tone and the book's overarching themes as she describes Thoreau, leaving the jail cell where he had been confined for refusing to pay war taxes and proceeding directly to his favorite huckleberry patch. Run small, size it up

They go small, Im 5'8", 165lbs, usually 32x30 fits just rigth in most brands Levis, Izod, whatever, can't even close the zipper on this one, my dingus prints in the front if I manage to close it, I will try a 34 or even 36, if you want one, size it up. Length is right.
Anyway, the pant is good, sturdy looking material, is not soft but nothing uncomfortable probably gets right after break it in, reinforced stitches on pockets. I think they would work great for a technician, salesman or an engineer, those jobs where you have to look like a human being with a polo shirt but sometimes needs to do something without ripping your pants while crouching or for daily abuse of the regular Joe, will try another that fits

Good, but size up!

These are exactly what I wanted, but as many have stated, you need to size up. I found that going up two sizes (from my usual 28 to a 30) made for a great fit. I love that they come in a 29 length. One anything point is they came with creases in them from being folded in the package for a length of time. I had to steam and press them before wearing. I’ll likely buy them in other colors.

order 3 or 4 inches up than your usual waist, run very small in waist

arrived with dirt on the bottom legs but amazon helped with that. anyway I weigh 115 lbs and am 5'8 and I am a woman. I know that Dickies these days run super small for their size, so it sounds insane but order up 4 inches than your normal waist size, then run small in the waist and they will shrink a size with a few washings. I ordered a 33 waist and they did shrink probably a size in one wash lol! they are still a bit loose in the waist but not big and I know with a couple more washings they will be just right. I do not like anything skinny fit or with no give. but yah, I love the charcoal gray color, one of my favorite colors, much cooler than plain black. I normally enjoy the Dickies shorts but with these forty something degree afternoons these are my new go tos. I am not a jeans person and I sure as hell with not be wearing pajama pants out in public like these dang younger adults lately.
