The articulated design gives the earrings a lovely movement, and makes them a pleasure to wear.
The design was made famous by the Portuguese Chrysoberyl earrings (sometimes rock crystal were used) that were at the height of fashion in the 1770s. They were one of the grandest souvenirs of the 18th Century Grand Tour. The style remained fashionable for a long time.
These earrings would have once had hoops, but at some point got pierced. We can have them turned back into hoops if you like.
