Dendrobium stuartii is a captivating epiphytic orchid species native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Java, Sumatra, Bali, Borneo, and Queensland, Australia. It thrives in riverine forests at elevations of 100 to 300 meters, often growing on orchard trees in open lowlands.
Features:
-
Growth Habit: Medium-sized, hot-growing epiphyte with thin, pendulous stems.
-
Leaves: Thin, ovate-oblong to ovate-lanceolate, deciduous, acute leaves arranged in two ranks.
-
Flowers: Small, white to lime green flowers, approximately 1 to 1⅓ inches (2.5 to 3.3 cm) in size, with a fringed labellum.
-
Blooming Season: Late spring to early summer, emerging from the upper nodes of leafless stems after the leaves have dropped.
Care Tips:
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight may scorch the leaves, so it's best to place the plant in a location with filtered light.
Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures between 70°F and 85°F (21°C to 29°C) during the day, with a nighttime drop of about 10°F (6°C).
Humidity: Requires humidity levels between 50% and 70%. In drier environments, consider placing the plant on a humidity tray or using a humidifier.
Watering: Water the plant thoroughly during the growing season, allowing the medium to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in the winter months when the plant is dormant.
Fertilization: Feed with a balanced orchid fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season. Reduce feeding in the winter months.
Potting: Use a well-draining orchid mix, such as bark or sphagnum moss. Repot every 2 to 3 years to refresh the medium and accommodate growth.
